When Ashley contacted me via Instagram I immediately dreamed of what this session could be. She sent me one sample image of a couple on a mountaintop and said, "this would be ideal." I knew we had to climb up to Rough Ridge.
On April 29, a foggy Saturday, Ashley drove 1.5 hours from her hometown in NC to hike up to the top of Rough Ridge on the Blue Ridge Parkway to 4293' in elevation. Of course on the drive there we had to stop for a few photos in a random Spring field :)
WHY DID YOU WANT TO TAKE YOUR PORTRAITS IN THE MOUNTAINS?
Ashley: "Everyone I go to school with goes to Old Salem to get prom pictures (it comes in the Starmount High School starter pack). I definitely wanted my prom portraits to be unlike any I had ever seen. Everyone always says, "a picture is worth a thousand words" but pictures are worth so much more. Photographs capture a memory and memories last a life time. I will never be able to describe to my children and grandchildren how special my senior prom was but I will be able to show them these photographs and give them a glimpse of how beautiful it really was."
WHAT WAS THE TOP MOMENT OF YOUR SENIOR PROM NIGHT?
Ashley: "Prom night couldn't have been more perfect for me. I wanted my senior prom to be flawless without any mishaps and it just sorta happened that way. It was effortlessly perfect. I couldn't have asked for better. Walking into prom was bittersweet knowing it was the beginning of the end. As a senior, prom is your final hoorah as a high school student before you graduate. Walking in knowing it was your last time being a high school student instead of graduate was surreal."
best memory FROM high school?
Ashley: "I think my best memory will be graduation! I've had so amazing memories throughout high school. I performed at Disney and NC State my Sophomore year of color guard. I was able to watch my older brother graduate from Starmount. I've been to countless ball games, talent shows, pep rallies and every school function in between. I even met my love at Starmount. My roots are deeper than just 4 years of school and a high school diploma - its so much more."
What comes next after graduation?
Ashley: "I want to go to school to be a dental hygienist. I also want to become a photographer because it's something I have always been passionate about."
It's even better in B&W!
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Ashley: "I have no idea where I will be 10 years from now. I hope that ten years from now I'll be enjoying my career, be married, traveling tons, have a black jeep wrangler and a bassett hound named Roscoe.
Thanks for hanging out with me, Ashley!
